This is the 23rd Google panda Algorithm change, and like Google Panda updates before it, they usually take a while to take hold before websites owners notice any changes to their sites rankings and performance in the search engines….
This latest Panda update(refresh) is said to affect around 1.3% of English queries. This may seem like a small number though, even a 1.3% change can have a huge impact on many website’s search engine rankings….
If you are not too sure what the Google Panda Algorithm is, here’s a fantastic infographic showing the difference between Google Panda and Google Penguin
My Experiences with a Google Panda Update and Google Penguin Updates Overlapping
Maybe you were lucky and your website has not been impacted by this latest Google Panda update..
For me I have seen some changes on my own site, and I am quite certain that these changes are partly to do with the 21/12/12 Google Panda refresh…..
The last time I had any really noticeable changes from a Google Algorithm update, was at the time of a Google Penguin update.
I wrote about how effects of constant Google Panda and Penguin updates seem to be overlapping, and causing long term issues for many websites…
My own site was being affected at that time, and it seemed to point to that Google Panda update and Penguin updates as having added to the problem…
The only thing that is hard to work out, is “how much of an effect” (or what %) the Google Algorithm updates are having, compared to other non Algorithm update factors..
This is the question that even the BIG SEO’S are not really 100% certain of, and they can only make an estimated guess as to any Google Algorithms updates “real effect”……
To get some insight into this latest Google Panda Update 21/12/12, here’s an article called Official: It’s Google Panda Update 23, Impacting 1.3 % of queries written by Barry Schwartz on the search engine land website.
Barry has also included a list posts for all the previous Google Panda updates, which go back to the first Google Panda update in Feb , 24, 2011…
You will see that the impact of this Algorithm update is much smaller than many others, if you go by the %(percentage) size…
though, considering that 1.3 % is focused on one area (English queries) it would more than likely have a massive affect on some websites out there….
Your turn now!
Have the latest Google Panda Update 23, had any effect on your website?

As of yet, I haven’t noticed too much going on with my SE traffic – Google seems to be sending me more traffic now, if anything. Perhaps these updates can serve as a good thing for non black-hats
As time progresses, it makes more and more sense to just stick to the methods that are legit. – they will keep you safe in the future, and help increase your traffic as others fail. Great post!
Joe Boyle recently posted..Why Everyone Should Use WYSIWYG for Web Design
Good to hear your sites traffic is picking up, Joe.
Agree that it’s best to keep within Google’s good books, rather than risk being slapped out of the rankings results…
In the past I became quite interested in a number of Backlink building software programs that auto post(auto comment, etc)…
I was also tempted to give some of those traffic swarm type websites a go…”then I snapped out of it, after reading so many stories of the consequences of using these methods….(both for the program use and the poor websites who would be flooded with all the spam these programs produce.)…..
Nice to see you hear, Joe.
Thanks for the compliment on this post!
Danny
I will go and check out your post on WYSIWYG, as I had great memories of a writing program(screenwriting) that used a WYSIWYG) editor.
I agree with Joe. The Legit methods like backlinking to build website traffic is still one of the best methods. No matter what changes Google will make, these legit methods are always very benefitial for any online business or any website.
Joe is right, Ryan.
From my own experience these methods most definitely work..
I think once a site starts to become more popular, it can be swept away with the momentum that has been previously built up….
So, we may not at first notice the results we desire by using these methods .
Though, if we keep plugging away, a kind of snow ball effect” can take place and our sites can experience massive improvements….
Nice to see you here,
Danny
